Resistance takes the form of a series of protest placards that voice current anxieties about immigration and asylum seekers. These poignantly speak to a fear of the other, along with a disregard for Australia’s First Peoples, whose sovereignty and ownership were compromised by settler society after invasion. Cope thus highlights the irony of the current refugee ‘crisis’ and European Australia’s inability to reflect on past injustices.
